Back from SES NYC 07
April 18th, 2007 by Brent ShroyerI’m back from the Search Engine Strategies conference in NYC. I was hoping to post more from the show, but my schedule was a bit too hectic. I had a blast and learned a lot of great SEO and SEM information. I highly suggest attending an SES conference if you do any search engine optimization for your organization. I met many friendly people including many of the more well known bloggers in the SEO community.
For a great overview of SEO on page factors, check out the post “Search Engine Ranking Factors” at SEOmoz. Rand Fishkin and his crew surveyed the biggest names and leaders in the world of SEO to put together a comprehensive list of factors going into ranking on Google. Each factor is given a score of estimated importance to your positioning. This is one of the best comprehensive lists on SEO basics I have ever seen. I highly suggest checking it out.
Speaking of Rand, I was able to briefly meet him and his fiancé at the show. If you have not read about his “Super Bowl Proposal” story, take a look. It is a great example of a link baiting strategy taken to a whole new level.
Many of the sessions I attended went into great depths on ad testing and site analytics. Speaking of analytics, look for more information on a Listrak Google Analytics tie in coming very soon! More on that in the next few weeks.
I will be writing up a post in the near future about the parallels going on between SEO and email marketing. I was amazed to hear many of same topics covered in the search engine optimization sessions that we have been talking about in our email marketing world. Specifically spam, relevancy and reputation.
One last thing… Ross and I were briefly interviewed at SES NYC on Webmaster Radio. You can listen to the clip here.
